Bet on the Gold Cup with totesport
The most coveted prize in National Hunt racing and the pinnacle of steeplechasing excellence, the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup is the unquestioned centrepiece of four days of championship races held at the Gloucestershire track in March.
Totesport’s continued sponsorship of the races ensures prize-money that attracts the best chasers from Britain, Ireland and France to compete over the three-and-a-quarter miles of the gruelling Prestbury Park track.
There are always fantastic and unique opportunities with our betting on the race which attracts the greatest names in jumping.
The mighty Golden Miller proved unbeatable in the 1930’s when winning five successive times between 1932-36, a feat that will surely never be repeated. Arguably the finest trainer in history, Vincent O’Brien, famous for his masses of classic successes in the world of Flat racing, sent out Cottage Rake to land three wins in a row in the Gold Cup from 1948-50, whilst the 1960’s saw the mighty Arkle land three in a row (1964-66) at the main expenses of the highly talented Mill House (winner in1963).
The modern era has also provided its share of worthy champions including L’Escargot, Burrough Hill Lad, Dawn Run, Desert Orchid, and of course recent triple Gold Cup hero, the much missed Best Mate (2003-05).
Kauto Star was a worthy successor to the line of champions when landing the 2007 renewal and it will surely take a very good horse to keep Paul Nicholls’ charge out of the winners’ enclosure again.
Nicholls is no stranger to Gold Cup success, having won the race in 1999 with the enigmatic See More Business, and the champion trainer believes that Kauto Star has what it takes to run up a sequence of wins in the great race and add his name to the list of elite triple winners.
Throughout the National Hunt season the major contenders for the Gold Cup will stake their claims, with races such as the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on Boxing Day, helping the betting public to form an opinion as to which horse is the most likely winner. It is worth monitoring our betting before and after each of these important races to see how the market reacts.
We at totesport offer ante-post prices on the Gold Cup throughout the year, as well as the other feature races at the Festival, whilst on the day of the race itself all the usual top class totesport betting products are on offer to ensure our customers get the very best value.
Kauto Star (5/4 favourite) paid £2.30 for a Tote win and £1.70 for a place in 2007 and it will be interesting to see Tote’s pool betting in 2008 when, barring injury, the chasing star bids to hold onto his crown.
